As '08 disintegrates...

Wow, okay so '08 was a little better than '07 (which was a bad year for a lot of folks)..

I'm 2 more semesters closer to getting my BA degree..woop woop!
Made it another year without getting pregnant! Lol naw, I'm careful..but its still something to be a little proud of...

-Musiq "OnMyRadio"

How you Doing? Farreal!!

When people ask you how you're doing, how often do you think they mean it?

I mean, the usual answer is "I'm good/fine/well"..

When I greet someone I usually say "Hi, how ya doing?"

And honestly, there are sometimes I know people just give me the usual answer because it's the thing to say..

And I do the same sometimes..

Saying hello to a neighbor who asks me how I'm doing, I say "I'm good, and yourself?" When in actuality I have a headache, have cramps, mad cuz I have entirely too many bills to pay, school sucks, I am stressed because of some of the people in my life, I need a vacay bad! But who actually tells people that from a "Hey, How are you?" Nobody wants to hear the bad, so we say we're fine, becuz it's acceptable.

People only ask how you're doing to start pointless convos about the weather. It's a convo starter really...

My close friends are the only 1s who actually care to know the real..

The passer byers and the nosey neighbors don't count..does it make me fake to give them a bunk answer?

Or maybe I say I'm good because that is what I want to be...kinda like how church folk always say "I'm blessed".. speak it into existance!! Can't be mad at that..

I'll leave you wit this hilariousness below!! LMAO!!!

It Was A Black Man..

Why is it that a Black Man can create a tiny piece called a filament (electric light - Lewis Latimer) that allows people to see in the dark? But can't be seen fit to lead a country to the true light.

Why is it that a Black Man can create an instrument (clock - Benjamin Banneker) that all people use to tell time? But people don't think it is time for him to run a country.

Why is it that a Black Man can design a place for the high authorities to meet in & a place for the president to live in (The Capital & the White House Phillip Reid (a slave) & Pierre L'Enfant)? But not good enough to lead these meetings or live in himself.

Why is it that a Black Man was brilliant enough to do the first open heart surgery (Dr. Daniel Hale Williams) and show the world how to get and preserve plasma (Dr. Charles Drew)? But not good enough to put a program in place where everyone can afford this surgery.

Why is it that a Black Man was creative enough to design an instrument (traffic light - Garrett Morgan) to bring multiple people (traffic) to a halt? But not seen creative enough to design a plan to bring all this unnecessary and worthless fighting between countries.

Why is it that a Black Man could create the soles (shoes - Jan Matzeliger) that people walk on everyday? But not seen good enough to fill the shoes of a president.

Why is it that a Black Man was smart enough & brave enough to teach himself (Fredrick Douglas &Thomas Fuller - both slaves) and others how to read, write and/or calculate math? But not seen smart enough and bold enough to calculate a platform to be President to a country that sure needs another first by us.

So you see my Brothers and Sisters what I am saying is let us not forgot our past, which led us to our present It is definitely the backbone to our future. We were good enough, smart enough, creative enough, and bold enough then, We all are as strong as our weakest link, so don't be that weak link that denies our people that chance to show we still can OVERCOME & BE THE FIRST!

VOTE FOR CHANGE!!

Mona Lisa-esque

I want you to write this to the perfect painting

A Mona Lisa-esque image shadowed by humilty

Finding whats mine, strength & ability

Queens can't be bought

Born to lead, never needing to be taught

Goddess of curiosity

Wouldn't you like to know

Mystery deprived of me

A spirit so exuberant

Like the Nile's slow and steady flow

Possession of internal jewels

Displaying all that is inside of me

For, who are you to treat such jewels like rocks

Priceless sold for cheap to relieve overstock

But the queendom is always prosperous

Even when some queens ain't down for us

They wanna be the main ones doubting us

So we leave them in clouds & dust

And as time goes by, I speed up my pace

Grass always greener and well worth the wait

Why focus on the stride, longevity is what I chase

Trickin off my destiny at a high rate

Neva dumb founded when I hit a fence or gate

I'm safe...or bate?

So good..or great?

The reaction is never fake when the outcome is fate

Rhyme & Reason

You will never be fully satisfied
Even if given perfection
With the sweetest rendition
Of what life's coalition has in store

What more would you want in a real woman?
What she has? What they have?
Do the math…
Where 1 lacks, the others barely provide
Leading you down this indecisive path

Sky's the limit, But you are timid
Never finding reason to focus on 1
Must be fun
But I cannot fathom your motives
Especially when there are none

As I watch from backstage, the noise a bit too loud
You're just like a performer, a pleaser to the crowd
I can hear the cheers even when I'm not around
Falling for fakeness is not your style
Which is why the realest is on your speed dial

But so is her clinginess, and falsified hope
And their thirst for the words of a poet like you
You will never realize that they don't even come close
Until it is time for you to choose

A mountain easily climbed is never worth the journey
Which is why I don't mind you giving me a hard time
Stuck in your frivolous ways
You may have missed your season
Yet you are still my rhyme
And I continue to be your reason

Hated It!!

This is what I do when I'm bored and too lazy to start this 10 pager that's due for my telecomms class in a few weeks....::clears throat::

Things I just cant stand!!

-When people say "you look tired"..when in actuality you got over 8 hrs. of sleep the night before...it's like asking "are you pregnant?" to a woman who has only been slippin' on her crunches for the last year or so....Just rude!

-The fact that I attend a university that has NO football team!!! But they have the nerve to advertise a 'homecoming' this fall....For what?? There's not gonna be a game!! sheesh!
  • sidenote: I love football, so it devastates me everytime I walk past our enormous stadium knowing that it isn't being put to good use...well, lemme take that back..David Beckham and the L.A. Galaxy practice and have games there...but still...why not a home football team!!
-The fact that one of my favorite shows "The Game" is being dogged out by the CW network. It's like one of the only black sitcoms on that station and they DO NOT advertise it AT ALL because they don't want it to get ratings...which means it may be cancelled...so please if you want to support please watch Fridays at 8pm (in L.A.) check your local listings for other cities...I really do love this show..does anyone watch it!?? It's fugged up it don't get the kinda love it should!!

-I hate that both my siblings living in Ohio. I have 1 older sis and 1 older brother and they have both up and left to go live with my dad's side of the fam...so I'm holding it down in southern Cali wit my moms...but I miss my siblings...I do.

-I hate how unprofessional Sarah Palin is...giving a 'shout out' to some 3rd graders in Alaska during a Vice Presidential Debate is not handlin'!! OBAMA/BIDEN '08

-I can't stand pick up lines..I went to the club this past weekend..and this guy tapped me on the shoulder and said "You know what, I have 'King' tattooed on my back in the same exact spot. What do you think that means?" I said, "Show me"..he didn't wanna show me because he was lying!! LOSER...

-Which brings me to my #1 pet peeve...I mean, this is what pisses me off the most!!=LIARS!! Hate 'em...point.blank.period...and I have the tendancy to see right through people..which means I can smell a lie from a mile away!! I never look at people the same after I have found out that they have deliberately lied to me..Lying to me insults my intelligence..Don't let these eyes fool u..

Reminisce: Something like a night to remember...

I was going through some old belongings of mine the other day, and I ran across my prom photos!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I know everybody remembers their HS Prom, right? Well, that's if you actually went to yours.

Well, mine turned out to be thee bizness!! I planned ahead!

I had to come out the pocket somethin' serious, so I saved up..I mean I had a 'lil after school job, so I sacrificed to get "THE DRESS"...and the dress was everything I wanted it to be. I live in Los Angeles, so there were soooo many places to search for the perfect attire..I hit up Melrose, the Beverly Center, even downtown!! But I didn't find it til I went browsing at the Westside Pavillion.. I saw it, tried it on, and knew this was the dress for me!! UNTIL...

I looked at the price tag...and saw it cost $425!!! WOWZER!!

I wasn't expecting to pay that much, but sometimes you gotta just go for it! (that's the shopper in me! lol) I certainly couldn't pay for it then and there, so THANK GOD they had a lay away plan...I filled out a few forms and was on my way!! All I needed was the shoes, jewelry, and to make my hair and make-up appointment!

MY DATE: He was thee best! He was my boyfriend ( who was in college) so of course me being 18, I thought I was tha shyt..lol..but I wanted that night to be memorable...so yea, I went ahead and reserved us a suite at the Renaissance...I mean, I'm not gone lie, the Queen was tryna get it poppin afterwards!! :D

THE EVENT: Our prom was actually on a yacht..thas boss!! 3 floors, two for dancing, 1 for pictures and chilling on the top deck.. It really was the biz. Plus I was looking saucy! So anyways, my date and I arrived 2 hours late (thas a long story), but we got there just when it was startin' to crack!

AFTER PROM: We went to the hotel to change, then headed off to afterprom, which is basically a club they rent out for all the schools having a prom that night. It was coo', I had a fun partyin' til 5am. Found out some people from my school had got in a car accident coming from prom....but everybody was okay...and Of course we hit up Denny's, I low key fell asleep waiting for our food..then woke up to the sun rising, my make-up was all smeared..and I was oh so tired..but its just something bout a Denny's breakfast that wakes up every ounce of energy in me!! Soooo, we didn't get any sleep. We ate then went to go change (among other things) and got all showered up to go do what every high schooler does prom weekend, we went to Six Flags!! LOL Tired as hell getting on roller coasters all day! We met the homies up there...a group of about 10 of us.. my homegirl was trippin cuz her prom date was hollerin' at anotha chick while we at the amusement park. I told her to just chill and have fun! "Fuck him! he's not your man!"

MONDAY: Came back to school with my prom weave still in tact!! :) And had stories to tell all my 'lil junior homies who couldn't go. 'Man, that was some night!'

I'm about to be 23 y.o. coming up on Jan. 9th, wow...it's really been 5 years! Time flies...

So anyways, here is "THE DRESS" (even though it's not the best picture of it, I think you can still get a feel for its wonderfulness! ;)

Doesn't everyone..

Compare..

Me to you...you to him..him to them...them to us...

It's what we all do, right? Even if you don't choose to admit it...
And most people don't speak on it, but it's our minds that wonder why this person isn't like that person, or why we feel more comfortable confiding in one friend over the other. It's natural. I guess.

But what makes it more difficult is when you are dealing with someone of interest.. Someone you feel drawn to, but turned off by when it comes to some things that he/she doesn't do. But why? Maybe because the last one treated you a certain way, or the last relationship made you accustomed to certain kinds of behaviors.

For instance, if a woman were dating a guy that wasn't as affectionate as the last guy she dated..she would probably subconsciously compare his actions to those of another man. No, it's probably not right, because no 2 men are alike, but she just may think he's not that into her, given the fact that her mind (and body for that matter) is used to a certain 'kind' of feeling, a comfort if you will...she's not confused..she's simply doing what most of us do: building and basing limitations upon our past conceived notions.

What's worse is when these limitations affect us in a way that makes us stagnant in our thinking. When you're dating someone, you are getting to know that person, in an effort to see them for who they really are. How can that be if you are 'stuck' on past idealisms that, quite frankly, did not lead you to the successful relationship you probably were hoping for.

Comparing should be innocent. It should be merely a thought, and rarely ever spoken, (especially to a Sista..lol) Because the last thing you want is her to feel like you have your mind on any other lady but her :)

Do you hear Musiq?

Okay, so I've heard the song..and now here's the video...

Musiq Soulchild - "Radio"

Now, I'll be the first to say I'm a big Musiq fan..but it is obvious his style has indeed changed...the beat itself sounds like something Jermaine Dupri produced, and the lyrics sound nothing like the Soulchild I know! I mean, it does have a catchy hook..and if I heard it in the club, yea, I'd shake a tailfeathah!..but seeing as I don't club a lot..nor do I plan to any time soon..this song is less than mediocre..and I expect much more from someone I used to admire for not giving in to what music execs think will sell...

Oh Musiq, say it ain't so!

I am looking forward to several albums dropping this latter part of the year...John the Legend..Jen Hudson..Kanye..Avant..Raphael Saadiq (in stores now!)..and even Beyonce (although I'm a skeptic when it comes to her)..AND Musiq was apart of that group!..

Unfortunately, his lead single has not sold me..and with the kind of rep he had in my book..winning my 12 bux wouldn't have been a hard task at all...

So, what do you think? Has he earned your anticipation for his forthcoming album?

UnVibed

If you have not yet seen the current issue of Vibe Magazine, this is it to the left.

I'm not going to say that I'm suprised that they have semi-nudity on their cover. And I'm not even go as far as to say that I'm suprised that it is CIARA of all people that is bucket azz nekked on newstands nationwide!

What is suprising to me is this trend in entertainment that is encouraging artists to sell much more than their music.

How ironic that the title on the cover states "Stand Up! CIARA".. they certainly know how to use wordplay in order to get the readers attention..mission accomplished!

Now let's take a trip down memory lane to when KEYSHA COLE did something similar. She was on the cover of Vibe late last year topless with the title "American Beauty". Hmmm...

I'm not gonna lie. It is a nice photo of her. I'm sure even before the photoshop, she looked just as beautiful.

It's just funny how they portrayed Ms. COLE as this phenomenal woman, while CIARA is completely degraded to merely skin and bones.

Sex sells. We all know that. And both these Vibe covers hit shelves right before these ladies have albums due out, so of course I get the whole idea of creating 'news' (and I use that term loosely) for increased record sales! But who are the people marketing these artists? I know nobody put a gun to CIARA's head and said "Bytch take off your clothes and squat, NOW!" These kinds of images can either make or break someones career. I mean, there are plently of 'models' (and I use that very loosely) that would bend over backwards for the opportunity to be on the cover of Vibe bucket azz nekked! That would be their dream! ha! (no comment there)...but they do not have an album coming out..and they probably don't have the kind of fanbase and diverse demographic outreach as both CIARA & KEYSHA COLE do.

I say, leave the nudity to the snoozies, and sell your music on your talent. I mean, that is why you get paid, isn't it? Selling sex appeal is one thing. Selling yourself...is another. And that line seems to be crossed by some of my favorite artists more times that I would like to count.

I still got love for CiCi and KeyKey tho.. but it's because I like their music..and quite frankly, the nudity is irrelivant when it comes to that.

1. Transformation

Well, well, well..

I've transformed this blog into so many things...Back in 2005, I used this strictly to connect with my classmates for school..then I used it as an outlet for me to practice my passion for journalistic style writing...and then I completely deserted what you now see as what's left of everything I deleted.

So, what's my motive this time?

I will be using this blog for more personal reasons this time around. As a blog member since 2005, it's funny that I've never really used it to speak my true mind! I don't know. I've read other blogs, and its crazy just how 'personal' some of yall get! Kudos!

I'm not saying I will be diving into all my beezneez and airing out all my dirty laundry for all to chuckle apon. But, I will be combining my passion for writing with my personal perspective on some things...current events, entertainment news, politics..who knows?

For yall who don't know the Queen, my name is Lisa..no shame in sharing that! I'm 22, a college student, the youngest of my moms 3 chil-ren, I'm half Creole and half Black, and probably the most open minded and down to earth Capricorn you will ever come across!

Now, time to work on my first 'Unofficial' blog post...don't be a stranger! ;P

Michelle Williams...is that you?

If you remember, after her unprecedented success with Destiny's Child, Williams crossed over to the gospel world with her solo album 'Do you Know' in 2004 (above). The pictures below are from the set of the former Destiny's Child member's new music video. What do ya think?

It's All About the Benjamins Baybee!!!

Who is she?
Liya Kebede

What is she famous for?
Liya was the first woman of African origin to become the face of Este Lauder, which turbo-charged her career and made her a new favorite with just about every label. She has since become an inspiration for minority models, especially those of Ethiopian decent because, quite frankly, there are not many Ethiopian supermodels.

Why is this blog about her?
Because this woman is married to this guy..

60 year old Kassy Kebede, a Hedge Fund Manager, worth an estimated $500 million!

Don't they make a cute couple?

A supermodel and an older wealthy man. Most people probably ponder whether or not she married him for the money or not. Was it he who helped jump-started her career? Would she still have married him had he not been a multi-millionaire and apart of the growing lower class? Well, she has two beautiful kids by him and is now living in New York City raising her family. If she really wanted to, she wouldn't have to work another day in her life! But no, miss thang is still doing her modeling thing.

And DON'T get it Twisted!

Mamas a beast on the runway! Betta ask about her!

Life-like art

Check out this dope artist!

Ron Mueck is a London-based photo-realist artist. Born in Melbourne, Australia, to parents who were toy makers, he labored on children's television shows for 15 years before working in special effects for such films as Labyrinth, a 1986 fantasy epic starring David Bowie. Eventually Mueck concluded that photography pretty much destroys the physical presence of the original object, and so he turned to fine art and sculpture. In the early 1990's, still in his advertising days, Mueck was commissioned to make something highly realistic, and was wondering what material would do the trick. Latex was the usual, but he wanted something harder, more precise. Luckily, he saw a little architectural decor on the wall of a boutique and inquired as to the nice, pink stuff's nature. Fiberglass resin was the answer, and Mueck has made it his bronze and marble ever since..

His work is lifelike but not life size, and being face to face with the tiny, gossiping Two Women (2005) or the monumental woman In Bed (2005) is an unforgettable experience.
